Peter J. Pitts is an internationally recognized expert in health policy, regulatory science, and medical innovation whose career has spanned government, academia, research, and public advocacy. A former FDA Associate Commissioner and member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service, he now serves as President of the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest, Visiting Professor at the University of Paris Medical School, Honorary Professor at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in South Africa, and a Research Fellow at the US-Israel Education Association. Over the course of his career, Pitts has become a prominent voice on the policies that shape how medicines are developed, regulated, valued, and delivered to patients. His work combines a regulator’s understanding of public health with a persistent focus on innovation, patient engagement, scientific integrity, and the practical consequences of healthcare policy. He has published extensively in leading medical and policy journals, advised international initiatives on patient involvement and drug shortages, and brought his perspective to policymakers, healthcare leaders, and audiences around the world.
